  • FT: Leicester 2-1 Chelsea
  • Vardy scores 15th of the season
  • Mahrez doubles lead
  • Remy pulls one back for Champions
  • Chelsea lose for 9th time this season
LEICESTER are top of the Barclays Premier League again.

The team of the season once again pulled of a performance of the highest quality to condemn champions Chelsea to their NINTH defeat in the league this season.

Goals either side of Half- Time from Jamie Vardy and Mahrez sealed the win that means if they win on Saturday they are sure to be top of the table on Christmas Day. The result leaves Jose Mourinho's Chelsea 16th and just one point clear of the relegation places.

It was a game that started off very tight with both sides knowing how important the game was in their retrospective league positions. Leicester of course could move above Manchester City and Arsenal to the top of the league while Chelsea were just desperate to move away from the relegation places.

Nerves were in the air after just 12 minutes when Chelsea keeper Courtois fumbled what looked like an easy cross but managed to gather it second time round.

Both teams were forced into early changes with Chelsea losing the out of form Eden Hazard and Leicester losing Danny Drinkwater.

The match did not come to life until after the 30 minute mark, Leicester took the lead through Jamie Vardy, perhaps not surprise it was Mahrez who set him up for goal number 15 of the season. He played a ball in from the right and Vary met it at the back post and slammed it home with a first time finish.

Mourinho not happy with his side ordered them down the other end and they forced corner which Willian whipped in and Matic headed but the ball clipped the bar as it went over.

After half-time Chelsea found themselves 2-0 down Mahrez netted his 11th goal of the season who was in plenty of space at the back post to curl home a beauty of a shot into the back of the net to double the home sides lead.

That seemed to kick the champions into gear as they then came alive creating chances, Pedro had the first of these but his shot from inside the box was well over. Chelsea's best chance came from that resulting corner. Ivanovic unmarked at the back post couldn't convert to half the deficit.

Chelsea did get the goal they wanted as a fabulous cross from Pedro found sub Loic Remy who nodded home to give Chelsea some hope, but it wasn't to be and Chelsea fell to defeat again this season.

So questions...

Can Leicester win the Premier League?

No team with this amount of points at this stage has never finished in the top 4.

Are Chelsea in a relegation battle?

Just one point above the relegation places this close to Christmas

Sacking Chris Hughton - Is it the right decision?

Another season has come to an end. This is the period where you will see managers come and go and players come in and depart clubs. The 2018/19 has now come to and end and Brighton finished in 17th place. I believe that if you had offered that to them most Brighton fans would have accepted a third successive season of Premier League football. Add onto that, The Seagulls also made the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Chris Hughton has paid the price for Brighton's poor form in 2019. This decision however, seems extremely harsh. Here is his overall record in charge of the club. Games: 215 Wins: 88 Draws: 57 Defeats: 70 That works out to a win percentage of around 40% that is not bad for a team that's budget is pennies compared to some in the Premier League. Brighton staying in the top flight is an achievement in its self and something that should not be looked over.  Hughton took over at Brighton back in 2014 when the club was struggling at the bottom of t...

This is believed to be have been a decision that come from an Everton board meeting on Tuesday afternoon. It is believed that Allardyce will receive the vast majority of of the final 12 months of his contract which Sky Sports estimate is around £6m. A statement on the clubs website read: "On behalf of the chairman, board of directors and Mr Moshiri, I'd like to thank Sam for the job he has done at Everton over the last seven months. Sam was brought in at a challenging time last season to provide us with stability and we are grateful to h...

Barclays Premier League Preview: Southampton v Everton

Ronald Koeman will return to the dugout this weekend after missing last week's match at Newcastle after having ankle surgery.  He will be hoping that his Saints side can cut out the errors as they welcome Everton to St Mary's this weekend. Southampton needed a Shane Long header 11 minutes from time to rescue a point against Steve McClaren's men at St James' Park last Sunday and the Southampton boss saw plenty of areas for Improvement. 'I wasn't impressed because I was not happy about the first half. Already in the Vitesse match we had too many mistakes the same in the first half at Newcastle." "All the dangers of Newcastle came from faults. The second half the reaction of the players and the physical state in the last 15 minutes was very good because we had the best chances to win the game" "Starting the season with a draw away against Newcastle isn't a bad result bur normally, if we play our level we win the game. " Sou...
