FA CUP FINAL REPORT: CRYSTAL PALACE 1-2 MANCHESTER UNITED (AET)

MANCHESTER UNITED won their first major trophy since Sir Alex Fegurson's retirement.

Jesse Lingard scored an extra-time winner in what looks set to be Louis Van Gaal's final game in charge of the club.

In a repeat of the 1990 final it was Crystal Palace who took the lead 12 minutes from time through substitute Jason Puncheon before Juan Mata levelled three minutes later to force extra-time at Wembley for the second time in three finals.

Chris Smalling's second yellow card making him only the 4th player to be sent off in an FA Cup Final  at the end of the first added period looked to have swung the game in Palace's favour but Lingard came up with a spectacular volley to secure United's first FA Cup since 2004 where they beat Millwall 3-0.

Eagles manager Alan Pardew made six changes to the side that played Southampton in their final Premier League game of the season at Southampton last Sunday. United welcomed back both Marcos Rojo and Fellini.

The game kicked off late due to the ceremony beforehand that ran slightly over. However, once the game started it was United who got off to the better start.

Controversy struck 17 minutes in when `Conner Wickham thought he had opened the scoring only to see that the referee had blown up for a foul by Chris Smalling. Palace would have further problems to come with the referee when Joel Ward had got the better of Marcos Rojo and Wilfired Zaha was penalised when it looked like he was on the wrong end of a foul by Wayne Rooney.

United were dominating possession but could not turn that into goals, Mata drew a good save from Hennessey, Fellini sent a header wide while Martials effort was blocked on the line.

The second half got underway in the same way with United on the attack. Fellini's shot cannoned off the bar 8 minutes into the second half before Martial's header beat the keeper but came off the post.

A worry for United and England fans came on the 71st minute when Marcus Rashford went off injured although, early reports from the club say it is not serious. 7 minutes later the game burst into life.

Sub Jason Puncheon came on for Yohan Cabaye and within minutes stayed onside and got on the end of Delaney's ball and lashed the ball passed De Gea from a close angle to give Palace the lead, their fans and manager celebrated, Pardew celebrating with a very nice dance. However, these celebrations were cut less than 3 minutes later when after great play from Wayne Rooney who clipped the ball over the Palace defence to Mata who's shot deflected in off Joel Ward to draw United level.

That goal sent the game to extra-time in which De Gea had to tip Bolasie's volley over, while Wayne Rooney shot over towards the end of the first extra-time period Smalling was shown a second yellow for a foul on Bolasie, becoming the 4th player to be sent off in an FA Cup Final.

Despite being down to 10 men United got the goal they needed Valencia got past Jason Puncheon to easily and the ball broke free to Lingard who hit a first time volley past the keeper 10 minutes from time as United lifted the cup for the first time since 2004.

FT REPORT: CRYSTAL PALACE 0-1 TOTTENHAM

HARRY KANE broke Crystal Palace hearts as he headed home an 88th minute winner at Selhurst Park.  It was Kane's 35th goal of the season and his 150th career club goal, the goal equalled his record of goals for last season as he once again looks on course for another stunning season in front of goal. His header broke the hearts of Palace who were denied a precious point in the battle against relegation. One man who will be thanking Kane for scoring will be Spurs right back Serge Aurier who had missed an open goal a few minutes prior to Kane's goal. The result saw Spurs go above Chelsea into the top four on goal difference before the Blues's trip to Manchester United. The defeat for Palace see's them remain 17th in the table outside the drop zone on goal difference. They also play Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool in three of their next four fixtures. It was a tight and tense affair in the first half and Spurs were unlucky to be denied two penalties....
