The Records behind Manchester City's 2017/18 Premier League Title Win

It has been a superb season for Pep and Manchester City this season as they have taken the Premier League by storm and brushed every team other than Liverpool aside throughout what has been a dominant campaign.

Pep Guardiola has led City to their 3rd Premier League title.

P: 33 W: 28 D: 3 L: 2

That is Manchester City's stunning record so far this season. 2017/18 is a season that has seen them break the English top division record for consecutive wins. Raheem Sterling scored a late winner against Bournemouth on August 26th, they won every game including that one until their 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace on New Years Eve which was a total of 18 consecutive wins, smashing the previous record set by Chelsea last season which was 13 wins in a row.

Last 12 Seasons Champions.

Passing is a crucial part of football and City do a lot of it. City broke this record twice. Chelsea visited the Etihad in March and were beaten 1-0. City set a new record of 902 passes in that game breaking the previous record they set of 842 against West Brom in October. Ilkay Gundogan also set a new record of 167 successful passes and 181 touches in one game.

They have also equalled some records this season.

City were confirmed as Champions on Sunday evening still with five games to play, that equals the record set by Manchester United in 2000/01. United beat Coventry meaning they were crowned Champions with five games to play meaning that the two Manchester clubs share this record.

They may have been records they have broken but City believe it or not still have some records to break which they look more than set do so before the season is out.

Most wins in a season currently stands at 30, that was set last season by Chelsea. City still have five games to play and you would expect them to wins at least two of those to at least equal the record.

City have been superb on the road and this season wining 14 of their 17 fixtures away from the Etihad this season dropping points only at Burnley, Crystal Palace and Liverpool. Chelsea's team from 2004/05 hold the current record with 15 meaning that If City win their final two away fixtures at Southampton and West Ham then they will set a new record on 16 wins in 19 away fixtures.

The same Chelsea side from 2004/05 hold the record for the most points ever won in a Premier League season with 95. Pep looks set to steal another record from Jose. City currently sit on 87 points  and still have 15 points up for grabs meaning their total should they win all five games will set a new record of 102 points.

Another record Jose and Chelsea currently hold from that brilliant 2004/05 season is the most away points accumulated in one season currently standing at 48. Pep will steal another record from Jose if City win both their remaining away games a win and a draw will equal the record.

Chelsea hold another record of the most goals scored from the Carlo Ancelotti winning side of 2009/10 they scored a total of 103 goals. City currently sit on 93 goals with 5 games left and you would be a fool if you said they won't achieve that target.

A record that many people see as not so important if you have the points is goal difference. Again the current record is held by the Chelsea side of 2009/10 with +71. That was boosted by a total of 29 goals from their top scorer Dider Drogba what an addition to the Premier League he was. City will take that record to the looks of things they currently sit on +68 with five games to go.

Manchester United can keep their record of the gap to second place should they match all of City's results from now until the end of the season. The current gap is 16 points between City and United. The current record held by United is 18 points from 1999/00 when they finished 18 points ahead of Arsenal.

Sacking Chris Hughton - Is it the right decision?

Another season has come to an end. This is the period where you will see managers come and go and players come in and depart clubs. The 2018/19 has now come to and end and Brighton finished in 17th place. I believe that if you had offered that to them most Brighton fans would have accepted a third successive season of Premier League football. Add onto that, The Seagulls also made the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Chris Hughton has paid the price for Brighton's poor form in 2019. This decision however, seems extremely harsh. Here is his overall record in charge of the club. Games: 215 Wins: 88 Draws: 57 Defeats: 70 That works out to a win percentage of around 40% that is not bad for a team that's budget is pennies compared to some in the Premier League. Brighton staying in the top flight is an achievement in its self and something that should not be looked over.  Hughton took over at Brighton back in 2014 when the club was struggling at the bottom of t...

Barclays Premier League Preview: Southampton v Everton

Ronald Koeman will return to the dugout this weekend after missing last week's match at Newcastle after having ankle surgery.  He will be hoping that his Saints side can cut out the errors as they welcome Everton to St Mary's this weekend. Southampton needed a Shane Long header 11 minutes from time to rescue a point against Steve McClaren's men at St James' Park last Sunday and the Southampton boss saw plenty of areas for Improvement. 'I wasn't impressed because I was not happy about the first half. Already in the Vitesse match we had too many mistakes the same in the first half at Newcastle." "All the dangers of Newcastle came from faults. The second half the reaction of the players and the physical state in the last 15 minutes was very good because we had the best chances to win the game" "Starting the season with a draw away against Newcastle isn't a bad result bur normally, if we play our level we win the game. " Sou...
