FT: REPORT SUNDERLAND 0-1 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Ryan mason fired spurs ahead with a late goal to earn them their first win of the season and adds to Sunderland's early relegation fears.

Sunday saw Tottenham Hotspur clash with bottom of the table Sunderland in a fixture which saw new Tottenham signing Heung-min Son getting his debut after being signed by the London outfit for £22 million.

Sunderland were hunting for a win which would help them out of their earls season rut which was once again causing some raised eyebrows among the black cat supporters after they saw their side stay up through the skin of their teeth last season.

Sunderland started well but Tottenham almost had a penalty after a brash challenge from defender Patrick Van Aanholt on Tottenham wing back Kyle Walker, however referee Craig Pawson waved away the visitors calls for a spot kick.

Striker Fabio Borini had already had a taste of life at Sunderland after being on loan at the club from his former team Liverpool. and he along with former Tottenham and England striker, Jermaine Defoe, looked promising as the home side pressed forward with real menace and in the 26th minute they had a glorious opportunity to score.

Jermain Lens played a wonderful through ball which saw Jermaine Defoe latch on but fail to convert as the 32 year old saw his shot hit the post.

this onlyu seemed to fuel the strikers determination to score as he proved to be a tough opposition for his former clubs defenders and almost scored as he managed to get a shot away only for Tottenham's Lloris to comfortably save.

Ryan Mason then somehowe managed to escape even a caution from the referee after his studs up challenge on Borini failed top gain the referees attention. It was then Mason who was once again catching the spectators gazes, albeit this time for better reasons, as the England prospect fired a shot from long range. However, Romanian Costil Pantilimon was there to make the save.

Harry Kane's confidence was boosted by his goals over the international break, but his poor form continued for Spurs when he miskicked the ball with only Pantilimon to beat after a delectable ball from the key man Mason found last seasons high goal scorer.

The only goal of the game came in the 82' as Lamela beautifully teed up Mason who was able to loft the ball over an outrushing Pantilimon to give Tottenham a crucial lead.

Sunderland pressed late on and could have found a wonderful equaliser through Jack Rodwell who was only just denied by the woodwork.

FT REPORT: MANCHESTER CITY 1-0 TOTTENHAM

MANCHESTER CITY put Wednesday's Champions League disappointment behind them after beating Spurs 1-0 to put the pressure back onto Liverpool in the title race.  (C) Manchester City  City came flying out of the blocks right away. It didn't take long to get in front. Bernando Silva's cross found Sergio Aguero, who had too much space in the box and headed across goal for Phil Foden who headed in from close range after just five minutes.  That was Foden's first Premier League goal on his second ever Premier League start. City continued to create chances but failed to take them. Aguero thought he was in after being played through by Bernando Silva but he was flagged offside.  Paulo Ganzaniga came into the starting lineup as one of five Tottenham changes. He however, was looking fragile. He made a number of errors that only gave City confidence. Trying to chip the ball over a player five yards out was one of a number of things the keeper attempted that c...
