Season Review: Arsenal

Arsenal missed out on Champions League football for the first time in the Arsene Wenger years. This was a difficult season that has ended with the possibility of an another F.A Cup and whole load of uncertainty.

Season Summary:

Premier League: 5th (-3)
Total Points: 75 (+4)
Champions League: Round of 16
F.A Cup: Final v Chelsea
EFL Cup: Fifth Round
Top Scorer: Alexis Sanchez (24)

Season Review:

For the first time under Arsene Wenger Arsenal have missed out on Champions League football. 1996/97 was Arsene Wenger's debut season and ever since then they have been an ever present in the Champions League but they will not play in the competition next season.

Devisions are in the fan base over the future of the manager which remains uncertain. Wenger has had pressure on him all season and it was at its high after Bayern Munich destroyed Arsenal in both legs of the last 16 tie in the Champions League.

Arsenal started the season well, they even beat the eventual champions Chelsea comfortably at the Emirates in September. Arsenal were second in the table after 22 games but an awful run from there including the Champions League exit cost them their title bid and place in the top four.

News then broke that both Ozil and Sanchez had not signed new contracts, many thought that the final league position would have the final say on whether they would sign new deals. A change of shape to three at the back then sparked an upturn in form but Arsenal would finish fifth. Wenger's plans are still not public and you feel a lot hinges on what happens at Wembley next week.

Manager Review:

Arsene Wenger is a fantastic manager no one will dispute that. However, this season by his terms is poor, it is his worst season as manager, to finish outside of the top four and to be outclassed in the Champions League. There is still the F.A Cup and that would end what has been a disappointing season on a high and if it is to be Wenger's final game and they win then her would go out on a high.

Player of the Season - Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez gets my vote. He has scored 26 goals this season and you feel without him Arsenal would have finished even lower in the table and missed out on European football completely. I don't think he has conducted himself brilliantly in the second half of the campaign but he still wins for me.

2017/18 Prospects:

It should be the same as it is every season and that should be aiming to win the Premier League. Personally I think if Wenger is still there then they won't win it, his unwillingness to change things and the lack of singings over recent years does not fill me with confidence. They need to clear the deadwood and bring in a new left back, centre back and striker.

2017/18 title odds: 14/1 (5th Favourites)

Sacking Chris Hughton - Is it the right decision?

Another season has come to an end. This is the period where you will see managers come and go and players come in and depart clubs. The 2018/19 has now come to and end and Brighton finished in 17th place. I believe that if you had offered that to them most Brighton fans would have accepted a third successive season of Premier League football. Add onto that, The Seagulls also made the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Chris Hughton has paid the price for Brighton's poor form in 2019. This decision however, seems extremely harsh. Here is his overall record in charge of the club. Games: 215 Wins: 88 Draws: 57 Defeats: 70 That works out to a win percentage of around 40% that is not bad for a team that's budget is pennies compared to some in the Premier League. Brighton staying in the top flight is an achievement in its self and something that should not be looked over.  Hughton took over at Brighton back in 2014 when the club was struggling at the bottom of t...

Allardyce met with the club's majority shareholder Farhead Moshiri this morning (Wednesday) where he was told that his services were no longer required. This is believed to be have been a decision that come from an Everton board meeting on Tuesday afternoon. It is believed that Allardyce will receive the vast majority of of the final 12 months of his contract which Sky Sports estimate is around £6m. A statement on the clubs website read: "On behalf of the chairman, board of directors and Mr Moshiri, I'd like to thank Sam for the job he has done at Everton over the last seven months. Sam was brought in at a challenging time last season to provide us with stability and we are grateful to h...

Barclays Premier League Preview: Southampton v Everton

Ronald Koeman will return to the dugout this weekend after missing last week's match at Newcastle after having ankle surgery.  He will be hoping that his Saints side can cut out the errors as they welcome Everton to St Mary's this weekend. Southampton needed a Shane Long header 11 minutes from time to rescue a point against Steve McClaren's men at St James' Park last Sunday and the Southampton boss saw plenty of areas for Improvement. 'I wasn't impressed because I was not happy about the first half. Already in the Vitesse match we had too many mistakes the same in the first half at Newcastle." "All the dangers of Newcastle came from faults. The second half the reaction of the players and the physical state in the last 15 minutes was very good because we had the best chances to win the game" "Starting the season with a draw away against Newcastle isn't a bad result bur normally, if we play our level we win the game. " Sou...
