MANCHESTER CITY put Wednesday's Champions League disappointment behind them after beating Spurs 1-0 to put the pressure back onto Liverpool in the title race.
City came flying out of the blocks right away. It didn't take long to get in front. Bernando Silva's cross found Sergio Aguero, who had too much space in the box and headed across goal for Phil Foden who headed in from close range after just five minutes.
That was Foden's first Premier League goal on his second ever Premier League start. City continued to create chances but failed to take them. Aguero thought he was in after being played through by Bernando Silva but he was flagged offside.
Paulo Ganzaniga came into the starting lineup as one of five Tottenham changes. He however, was looking fragile. He made a number of errors that only gave City confidence. Trying to chip the ball over a player five yards out was one of a number of things the keeper attempted that caused the visitors problems.
Spurs however, created decent openings. Son had two chances but was quickly foiled out, first by Laporte and then by Ederson who was quickly out of his goal after the South Korean has got the better of two City defenders.
Spurs started the second half the better. Lucas Moura charged downfield early on looking for Son who was offside.
Both sides struggled to create clear cut chances in the second period. City for all of their possession and crisp passing failed to work Paulo Ganzaniga.
Kyle walker was lucky not to give away a penalty mid-way through the second half. The ball came over the top for Dele Alli. Walker although not meaning to used his arm to change the direction of the ball. Referee Michael Oliver pointed for a corner. From that Eric Dier headed over.
Raheem Sterling almost made it 2-0. A charging run by Leroy Sane who played the ball into Sterling who got a good connection on the ball but Ganzaniga pulled off a great save with his foot to deny the Englishman.
The nerves around the Etihad Stadium were there to see. The longer the game was going the more anxious the City players and fans were becoming.
Spurs continued to pile on the pressure, adding Llorente to the mix but he did not have desired effect. City in the end held out for a huge, huge win that see's them go back to the top of the Premier League ahead of Liverpool playing at Cardiff tomorrow.
City have to rest up quickly as they play their game in hand against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday. A derby which will be one of the most important in recent history for the Blue side of Manchester.
