Preview: United v City - Is tonight the night United hand Liverpool the title?

Is tonight the night we get a clearer picture as to where the Premier League trophy is going?

Manchester City will return to the top of the Premier League table this evening with victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. Only a win will take the Champions back to the summit, anything else puts the title in Liverpool's hands.

United themselves have a battle on their hands. After Sunday's 4-0 defeat at Everton the Red Devils are 6th in the table and trail Chelsea by there points in the battle to qualify for the Champions League.

After the embarrassment of Sunday's defeat at Goodison Park, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes the Derby is the best fixture for a reaction. "It was the best game we could ask for now. The players are hurting. We had a meeting after the game and you could see all the players were really hurt by that performance and the City game is perfect." Said the United boss in his pre-match press conference.

Pep Guardiola has also been speaking to the media ahead of the game and he believes his side have to win all four games if they are to retain their title. He said "We have to win four games to retain our title. It's not an easy place to go but it's a nice place to go, we know what we need to do."

Luke Shaw is available after missing Sunday's defeat at Everton, while Phil Jones is doubtful after going off injured at Goodison Park.

For City,  Kevin De Bruyne is out and will play no part after he went off injured in Saturday's win over Spurs.

This will be the 160th and possibly biggest league meeting of the sides in recent years. United have won 62 of the previous 159 with City winning 46. There have been 51 draws.

City have won their last two visits to Old Trafford and won the meeting between the sides in November. It's worth noting that United have not lost home and away to the same opponent since Swansea in 2014/15.

Prediction

This is a big game for both of these sides. City need the win to return to the top of the league but United need the points for a top four place.

Man United need a response to that performance on Easter Sunday. City were nervous against Spurs and I can see that carrying through here. Im going for a draw.

United 2-2 City

Sacking Chris Hughton - Is it the right decision?

Another season has come to an end. This is the period where you will see managers come and go and players come in and depart clubs. The 2018/19 has now come to and end and Brighton finished in 17th place. I believe that if you had offered that to them most Brighton fans would have accepted a third successive season of Premier League football. Add onto that, The Seagulls also made the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Chris Hughton has paid the price for Brighton's poor form in 2019. This decision however, seems extremely harsh. Here is his overall record in charge of the club. Games: 215 Wins: 88 Draws: 57 Defeats: 70 That works out to a win percentage of around 40% that is not bad for a team that's budget is pennies compared to some in the Premier League. Brighton staying in the top flight is an achievement in its self and something that should not be looked over.  Hughton took over at Brighton back in 2014 when the club was struggling at the bottom of t...

Allardyce met with the club's majority shareholder Farhead Moshiri this morning (Wednesday) where he was told that his services were no longer required. This is believed to be have been a decision that come from an Everton board meeting on Tuesday afternoon. It is believed that Allardyce will receive the vast majority of of the final 12 months of his contract which Sky Sports estimate is around £6m. A statement on the clubs website read: "On behalf of the chairman, board of directors and Mr Moshiri, I'd like to thank Sam for the job he has done at Everton over the last seven months. Sam was brought in at a challenging time last season to provide us with stability and we are grateful to h...

Barclays Premier League Preview: Southampton v Everton

Ronald Koeman will return to the dugout this weekend after missing last week's match at Newcastle after having ankle surgery.  He will be hoping that his Saints side can cut out the errors as they welcome Everton to St Mary's this weekend. Southampton needed a Shane Long header 11 minutes from time to rescue a point against Steve McClaren's men at St James' Park last Sunday and the Southampton boss saw plenty of areas for Improvement. 'I wasn't impressed because I was not happy about the first half. Already in the Vitesse match we had too many mistakes the same in the first half at Newcastle." "All the dangers of Newcastle came from faults. The second half the reaction of the players and the physical state in the last 15 minutes was very good because we had the best chances to win the game" "Starting the season with a draw away against Newcastle isn't a bad result bur normally, if we play our level we win the game. " Sou...
