MANCHESTER UNITED won their first major trophy since Sir Alex Fegurson's retirement.  Jesse Lingard scored an extra-time winner in what looks set to be Louis Van Gaal's final game in charge of the club. In a repeat of the 1990 final it was Crystal Palace who took the lead 12 minutes from time through substitute Jason Puncheon before Juan Mata levelled three minutes later to force extra-time at Wembley for the second time in three finals. Chris Smalling's second yellow card making him only the 4th player to be sent off in an FA Cup Final  at the end of the first added period looked to have swung the game in Palace's favour but Lingard came up with a spectacular volley to secure United's first FA Cup since 2004 where they beat Millwall 3-0. The team of the season once again pulled of a performance of the highest quality to condemn champions Chelsea to their NINTH defeat in the league this season.  Goals either side of Half- Time from Jamie Vardy and Mahrez sealed the win that means if they win on Saturday they are sure to be top of the table on Christmas Day. The result leaves Jose Mourinho's Chelsea 16th and just one point clear of the relegation places.  It was a game that started off very tight with both sides knowing how important the game was in their retrospective league positions. FT REPORT: LEICESTER CITY V ASTON VILLA Sundays Later kick off between Leicester City and Aston Villa was a big game for Leicester fans as there was potential for Ranieri's side to go second in the table. Tim Sherwood opted to rest full back Ciaran Clarke in favour of deadline day signing Joleon Lescott. And the defender was right in amongst the action from the word go as Okazaki tried to round him and get a shot away only for it to be blocked. This was a warning to Villa that Leicester would be a tough opponent. However, man of the hour Scott Sinclair, arguably should have scored in the first ten minutes. FT: REPORT SUNDERLAND 0-1 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR Ryan mason fired spurs ahead with a late goal to earn them their first win of the season and adds to Sunderland's early relegation fears. Sunday saw Tottenham Hotspur clash with bottom of the table Sunderland in a fixture which saw new Tottenham signing Heung-min Son getting his debut after being signed by the London outfit for £22 million. Sunderland were hunting for a win which would help them out of their earls season rut which was once again causing some raised eyebrows among the black cat supporters after they saw their side stay up through the skin of their teeth last season. FT REPORT: CHARLTON 1-1 ROTHERHAM Brandon Smith reports from The Valley  Saturday's clash at the valley between mid table Charlton and low flying Rotherham ended with the scores at 1 a piece as Patrick Bauer Rescued a point for the addicks. FT REPORT: SWANSEA CITY 2-1 MANCHESTER UNITED Brandon Smith Reports Andre Ayew and Bafatembi Gomis cancelled out Juan Matas goal to leapfrog Manchester United in the table.  Louis Van Gaal's Manchester United were looking for revenge for last seasons double defeat to Swansea City as they faced Monks Swansea at the Liberty  on Sunday evening .  Rooney's woes in front of goal came to an end midweek as Manchester United slammed Club Brugge but it was all a Austin of whether he could replicate that against the welsh side who had no injury concerns coming into the game. FT REPORT: SOUTHAMPTON 3-0 NORWICH Brandon Smith reports Norwich City travelled to Southampton on Sunday afternoon looking for their first win at Saint Mary's since 2008 but a Tadic brace and a strike from Graziano Pelle denied them 3 points in their return to the premier league. Southampton were without former Chelsea defender Ryan Bertrand and Jordan Clasie through injuries but Saido Mane returned from his knock. The canaries troubles with Lewis Grabban continued as he was suspended for the match and they also missed Lafferty and Mulumbu through injury.
